So I love this website but now it is even cooler because I actually won something from it. I never win anything! And it was a pretty cool prize too. I got to pick out any 5 shoes in whatever size I wanted. And no, I am not pregnant with a girl, I gave the girl shoes away to people.

Pretty cute shoes huh?

Joshua's signs at 17 months

Joshua picks up signs so quickly now and just loves doing them. He can seriously see a sign once and then will know it from then on. I can't believe I had such a hard time getting him to do his first (11 months) and second (13 months) sign. Unfortunately, he still won't speak any English so I'm no longer actively trying to teach him new signs, although he will sometimes make some up or he'll see them on signing time and start doing them. Here he is signing please. He's gotten very good at begging for things. Look at that face with the sad, if you don't give it to me I don't know what I'll do, eyes.

And here are most of the signs he does at 17 months in the order that he learned them:

all done
hi and bye
wash hands
all gone
thank you
teddy bear
brush teeth

Remembering on Memorial Day

Although my mom didn't die in a war, like many families, we visit her gravestone on Memorial Day. The flowers on her gravestone are from one of the gardens she planted around my family's home growing up. It's amazing how much I miss her. She is always in my thoughts.

My little nephew also has a gravestone in the same cemetery in the infant section. The white flower blossoms you can see on one of the closer gravestones in the picture are from one of my mom's favorite trees at my parent's house. Notice how there is a cup with flowers in it on every infant gravestone. Someone comes around each Memorial Day and places these.

Star Trek Is Not Just For Nerds Anymore

Excuse me! I've been reading this (or something very similar to this) every where and I just wanted to say that although I guess I'm a bit of a trekkie since I've seen every star trek episode out there, I am not a nerd. The two are not synonymous thank you very much. Geez.
OK. I feel better now that I got that off my chest. I guess I'll go watch another episode of voyager now :)

Sleeping Away

I was watching Jimmy Fallon the other night and his guest Martha Stewart (whose career was somehow not affected by her jail time) was mentioning how she is a bit of an insomniac and can fall asleep anywhere. This reminded me a little too clearly of myself, especially in high school. Luckily, most of the time I fall asleep somewhere I will wake up if there is a sudden change in sound, light etc. It's like my body is listening while I'm asleep because I'll wake up to a turn of a door knob, but I won't wake up to a rock band playing--since apparently a rock band isn't a threat to me hence not worth waking up for? I dunno.

Anywho, I usually wake up when I need to but there was this one time in junior high when I was sitting at the back of the class while we were watching a movie. The next thing I knew the teacher was patting me on the shoulder telling me I should probably be going to my next class because the bell was about to ring. WHAT?! Apparently I slept through the movie turning off (a normal "wake up" sign for me) and everyone in the class walking by me while they were heading out the door.

Now that I think about it, I'm sure everyone was walking by me laughing and stuff (it was junior high and all). Plus, I must have been a real loner to not have any friends in that class. Well, I assume I didn't have any friends or else they would have woken me up right? OK. So that was a long time ago, but I can't help but feel sorry for my poor, loner, made fun of self. Poor, junior high me. My shyness was definitely not helping me out then.

The female version of the remote control

You know how guys go flipping through channels constantly with the remote, well I go flipping through tabs like crazy on my browser page. So much so that I constantly freeze my laptop. I guess I'm just trying to be too efficient while I'm waiting for another page to load. Ok. Fine. I'm simply impatient.

Speaking of impatient, I burnt toast again today. So annoying. I can't seem to get myself to sit there watching and waiting while the toast cooks. I always think that 'I'll just do this or that real quick' or 'I'll just grab something real quick' and then, viola, burnt toast. Talk about wasteful. What about all the starving kids in Africa? Ok, so that isn't exactly true cause and effect, but I still feel bad. Maybe I can guilt myself into having more patience.

I'm a bit impressed with myself too

I started off with this...

And used this (yep, I even found it and charged it all by myself)...
To make this....

So that this was possible. Joshua doesn't look too happy in this pictures, but he really does like it (in his hands and in his mouth).

And so it came to this big decision...

Do I put my hand down my pants--in public?! Well, let me put this into context first...

I was at the playground with my son minding my own business when I suddenly felt a little pinch on my butt.

Hmm, what in the world was that?

I took a look around me and no one was standing near me. And then the sensation came again--and then again.

OMG, I think I have something down my pants biting me. What do I do? Ouch! There it goes again! And again!

I knew I had to do something quick since the attack was still under way but I didn't really like my options. Either I sit on it and smash it {could there possibly be anything grosser than a smashed bug on your butt?}, or I put my hand down my pants and try to get it out. Isn't there suppose to be a good and a bad option in a situation rather than just two bad options? Anywho, after a moment of deep contemplation I chose what I thought was the lesser of the two evils and shoved my hand down my pants and out flew a wasp--but not before it had made a pin cushion of my poor, helpless butt.

And now I'm wondering how it got down there in the first place? Are my pants really that "gappy" at the waste? Do I need to start wearing a tighter belt or suction pants that impede all entrance to my butt? Hmmm...

(there is no picture with this post for obvious reasons)
