That's one big zucchini!

This is what happens when you go out of town for 2 weeks (more about that later) and your husband forgets to check on the zucchini (as in cut it when it is nice and medium sized). This is only the biggest one of the bunch I picked right after I got home!

Luckily there are multiples ways to use zucchini! Yum!

Moving Etiquette

When someone asks you to help them move I understand this as helping them move not helping them organize their house and pack up all their belonging. That would be called helping them pack--am I right? And since the stuff "you" want me to move (but in actuality want me to pack) is not my own and I don't know how or where it should be packed don't you think you should do it beforehand...preferably before I get there to help you move your stuff that isn't actually ready to move and probably won't be ready to move until I stand around for at least a few more hours.

Can you tell the same scenario has happened to me more than once (including last week)? So don't get me wrong, I am perfectly happy to help you move. I am, really. But just don't ask me to help you move when you aren't actually ready to move but are still on the packing and sorting phase or else you will have one cranky helper.

I'm not the only one this bugs am I? Anyone else out there as impatient as me in this matter?

Snip Snip

Joshua got his second hair cut today at cookie cutters. Seriously, if you have kids and you haven't been there you should really try it out. It's awesome.

Here are some pictures of him before his first hair cut. Talk about long hair!

And here's a picture of him before his second hair cut. His hair was slightly shorter than this after his first hair cut since I didn't have the guts at the time to chop it all off.

And here he is after his first short hair cut. I can't believe how different he looks. I think he might possibly look cuter than before :)

It's a grow'n!

I finally started to get some zucchini a couple weeks ago since I planted late and used seeds instead of baby plants. Since I planted tons of seeds I'm sure I'll have an insane amount in a couple weeks so feel free to stop by if you want some!

If you look closely, you can see a new baby zucchini growing.

Joshua decided that he wanted to be in a picture like the zucchini and jumped in front of the camera just in time.

Bike Helmet Please!

Joshua loves his bike helmet. He wants to wear it all the time.

Unfortunately it gives him helmet hair (which is pretty sweaty).

Here's a video clip of him in our garage--with his helmet on of course. He gets excited whenever we get into and out of the car because he can see his helmet and our bikes.

Mistery of the Exit 273 Slowdown

I just don't understand it. Traffic is flowing perfectly and then all of a sudden as you get near exit 273 everyone slows down to like 50 mph. From 70 to 50 just like that for no reason at all. There isn't any kind of intense hill and no, these people aren't even getting off at the exit. Is there some kind of hidden cop station there that I don't know about? Oh, and sorry for the tangent, but people that slow down below the speed limit when they see a cop car "drive" me crazy! (hehe, do you like my pun?) They deserve a ticket for going too slow. These drivers (ok, and a lot of other drivers) make me want to do what the lady in Fried Green Tomatoes did. I visualize myself doing this all the time. Hopefully I won't go a bit crazy one of these days and give into my desires!

Here's the clip since I don't know how to upload it here:

Mission Accomplished

Written by James - This summer I had a goal to bike a lot. Bike to work, bike up the canyon, etc. And keep doing it until I got into shape and could accomplish something amazing.

I made what seemed like a wild goal - ride the entire Alpine Loop on my bike.

Mind you, last summer I could barely ride to the Redbox on the corner to pick up a movie. I eventually went all the way to the Redbox on Center St. thinking that was insanely far away. Then I worked my way up Provo Canyon. First, from my house to Canyon Glen. Then after a few weeks all the way to Nunn's Park. Then Bridal Veil Falls. After another month I worked my way up to Vivian Park. I was really, really proud of myself for riding to Vivian Park multiple times. At the end of the season last summer I decided to go crazy and ride all the way up to Sundance. I did it, but it absolutely killed me. I had to stop 5 times on the 2 mile stretch from the freeway up to Sundance. It was so hard that I think it was the last ride I did for the year.

This summer I got a new job in American Fork and I started riding every day. I decided that I was riding enough that I could justify buying a new road bike. Since then I've been riding it from Orem to American Fork at least every other day. Riding to work got me into shape and I went from my house to Sundance on two occasions without stopping once.

Then Fred came to town. He is my brother-in-law that lives in France. He is super into biking. He motivated me to ride with him to Sundance again this Monday, even though I had just done it the last two Saturdays. Then, today we went for a ride up American Fork Canyon. It was going so well that I wanted to just keep going and do the entire Alpine Loop. I did it! And here is my proof. Fred snapped a photo of me at the summit!

FYI - the elevation at my house is 4812 ft. If you had told me last year that I would be riding the Alpine Loop, it would have made me laugh. Here are my average stats from my ride today. Hopefully I'll be embarrassed of how bad these are in a few years: 12.1 mph, 145 heart rate, 61 cadence, 29.55 miles, 2 hrs 26 min.

I've mentioned that Joshua likes to try on shoes right? Well he isn't particular about what kind of shoe as you can see below. And I have a feeling that his second time at nursery must have taught him some lessons about dress up since he promptly came home from church, found this toy purse in his toy room (I didn't even know he knew that it existed), put on my high heels and started walking around the house. My oh my! I certainly have some good blackmail photos for the future if needed :)

He speaks!

At Joshua's 18 month appointment he only said a few words, one of which, if I'm remembering correctly, wasn't even mommy!{pout} A week or so later he started speaking additional words and his vocabulary has been growing daily. Here's his "word list" at 19 months:

"all gone"
"mama" (yep, he said dad first)
"ball" (I'm not too surprised about this one)
"helmet" (which sounds like "helm"--he is obsessed with his bike helmet)
"row row row" (as in "row row row your boat" his favorite nursery rhythm)
"ouch" (which he says constantly, even when something just touches him)
"uh oh"
"doe" (aka "don't" that he says as he points to something he isn't suppose to touch)
"hush" (which he learned from the little old lady in Goodnight Moon)
"rmoe" (remote)
"tray" (train)
"thx" (thanks)
"grandma" & "grandpa" (he loves to point at pictures of them while saying their name)
"mine" (he says this as he points to himself or a picture of himself)

Finished at only took me 4 years!

After 4 years I finally did something with our front room. It was a semi-finished dining room for a while but since we had a table and bar stools in the next room and someone in our family was in need of a table we decided it was time for a change. Sorry that the coloring in one of the photos is terrible. You can tell that I'm an expert photographer huh?!

4th of July (posted at last)

We had a lot of fun on the 4th. We started out with a ward breakfast and then went to the parade. Joshua had mixed feelings about this as you can see below. He wasn't very fond of the loud marching bands.

On the way home from the parade Joshua was absolutely exhausted and decided to take a snooze in the car. Lucky for us he transfers easily from car seat to crib. Once he woke up from his nap we had a family BBQ followed by a hike up to Stewart Falls (I did forget to bring my camera as predicted) and some root beer floats and fire works. Lucky for us we were able to watch the fireworks from my grandparent's balcony while Joshua napped next door (my parent's house is next door) with my MIL. What a busy, but fun day!
