Silly, Sweet Boy

Today Joshua had a huge tantrum. At least a huge one for him. He was screaming inconsolably. After several minutes we were able to calm him down enough to talk to us. Turns out he was upset that family home evening was over.

Now that was the last thing I was expecting him to be screaming over. Silly boy!

Now here's something sweet. Yesterday he turned to me, hugged me and said "Mommy, I love you a whole bunch!"

Wee Little Bartlett Family

My sister has been scanning in some photos from when we were little. Here are a couple of my family. In the first one Ruth and I are the little babies.

Liam is here!

Baby Liam is here! Congrats Sharon and Bill!

Liam is the 4th grandchild born in my family this year. Jacob is going to have a lot of fun with his cousins when he gets a bit older!

Jacob at 4 months

Little Jacob is 4 months old! Time has flown by. Jacob is still a pretty easy going guy and is happy most of the time. He usually sleeps well for naps and at night time (11-12 hours-yippy!) although he gets pretty upset when I swaddle him because he knows that means play time is over for now. He is one social little guy!
Jacob's biggest fan used to be mommy and only mommy but now his dad and big brother are joining the fan club. He smiles like crazy at joshua. It is almost impossible to feed Jacob with Joshua around.
Jacob continues to be a very big boy although his growth has slowed down a bit. He is bit chubby but not nearly as chubby as joshua was at this age (joshua was 1-2 pounds bigger). Jacob is more big all round. He looks like a toddler. A toddler that can barely hold his head! Ha! When I took him in for his 4 month appointment the nurse had to double check that he was really there for his 4 month appointment. She couldn't believe how big he was.
This age is so much fun for me. He is beginning to roll over (although he can only do it on the bed, not on the floor) and is getting really good with his hands. Everything goes in his mouth of course! Where else?! He smiles and laughs at everything. So fun!
He hasn't had any solids yet and probably won't until at least 6 months old. It's amazing that my milk is all that is keeping this baby going!

4 MONTH STATS:
Weight: 16 lb 15oz (81%tile)
Length: 26.5 in (90%tile)
Head Circumference: 17.3 in (84%tile)

For reference, here he is at 2 weeks and 2 months.

Joshua...

Joshua finally said his first prayer the other day. It went something like this... "Heavenly Father, thank you for cars, trains, thank you for Sesame Street, Word World and then some other stuff I couldn't understand.  You can tell what he considers important in his life!

We have been doing reading time each day. Joshua gets to choose some books then sits on a chair for 10-20 minutes and "reads". He has lots of fun.

Joshua's new favorite sleeping position. He is lying across his pillow.

Joshua continues to be obsessed with cars.

Joshua got a duck and frog towel. He is obsessed with them. He loves getting out of the bath because he gets to put one of them on and act like that animal. His imagination has really gone wild lately. It is so fun to watch him pretend. He constantly talks about dinosaurs, garbage trucks, bugs in his mouth (aka germs) and an imaginary cat outside he is going to chase.

Sticky Notes Galore

I love sticky notes. I have them all over the place. I took this photo yesterday. Believe it or not but there is one more sticky note on my desk now.

I also got  new computer. Look how much cleaner my desk top is now. Pretty amazing difference. I think I have 10 less cords on my desk now (they used to be stuffed dangerously behind the computer).

3 months old!

That's right. Jacob is already 3 months old. I can hardly believe so much time has gone by. He's still a very sweet baby and is growing like a weed!

I just love it how babies like to look at their hands. Jacob is starting to grab things now (mainly links bc they are easy to grab:). He even sometimes gets them into his mouth. So fun to watch!

Jacob is snoozing after a long day at church. He loves to cram his face right into me and refuses to have it sideways. I have no idea how that is comfortable.

Grandma

We recently visited my mom's grave site since it's been seven years since she died. I wasn't sure how to explain things to Joshua, so I told him that the cemetery was a place where we put stones to remember people that are in Heaven with Heavenly Father and Jesus. It was especially confusing to tell him about his grandma bartlett there because my step mom is grandma bartlett too!  Anyway, we had a lot of fun walking around looking at gravestones. The provo cemetery is a really pretty place if you haven't been there before.

We also stopped by my nephew's gravestone. There is an entire area with baby gravestones. It's hard to go near the area without getting sad. At least I know they are happy in heaven :)

70th Birthday Celebration

For my dad's 70th birthday he wanted to go camping. We went to the Castle Rock Campground for a few days which is where he used to go all the time when he was scout master. Like usual, it was a tons of fun to hang out with everyone (my dad, stepmom kathy and 2 of my siblings and their families went). Admittedly camping (and naps) with a 2 month old and 2 year old was a little difficult as you can imagine. We are sorry to all those who had to listen to an overtired 2 year old whine!

Notice how the cupcakes make the number 70.

Jacob spent much of his time sleeping in a sling. Notice the rock design my brother is putting near the entrance of his tent. He is one funny guy.

What cute little feet!

James and Jacob

Joshua was so tired that he walked over to James, put his head on James' leg and fell asleep. This has never happened before. Our little boy is not one to give in to sleep! Of course, he had to hold onto his chips when he fell asleep.

Joshua got really cranky and we thought a little time to himself would help. We had him play in his playpen/bed with some toys for a little bit and before we knew it, he was smiling and happy again. What a nice view he had!

Bill made a huge fire.

Alex had fun playing with Joshua in all the caves nearby

You can see why they call it Castle Rock.

101 Reasons...

I've been sitting at home feeling a little bad for myself.

I have a bad yeast infection that I've been dealing with for the last three weeks after Jacob got thrush and passed it on to me. We've been working on treating it but it hasn't been working. I had to throw away all my storage of pumped milk (never fun to do) because I wasn't sure how long the infection had been going on and I didn't want to have yeast in my stored milk.

So now I'm at home with the kiddos while James is on our date night by himself (at a college football game) because there no longer are bottles of pumped milk for a grandma/pa to give Jacob and I didn't want to take him to such a crowded place. I generally like breastfeeding and I'm glad I'm doing it, but I will admit that sometimes (like right now when I am in horrible pain from the infection that won't go away) it is hard and feels like a sacrifice.

As I was looking online for the instructions to use gentian violet I came upon this page of 101 Reasons to Breastfeed. Number 17 especially popped out to me since I was recently diagnosed with this disease and it runs in families.

Breastfeeding may not always be easy, but I'm pretty sure I will never regret doing it.

All hail to the napper!

Guess who just woke up from a 4 hour nap after spending the morning at thanksgiving point farm country?

Mommy, who has been up since 5 am, thanks you!

Why don't friends with kids have time?

Love this response, it really made me laugh.

Joshua

Here are a few random photos of Joshua who is 2.5 years old. First off, here he is inside the stroller basket.

We got Joshua a glider bike right after Jacob was born. He's not exactly what I would call an expert with it, but he's learning.

Every so often Joshua remembers that he has two holes in his nose. After several minutes of play he usually becomes side tracked by a toy and forgets about his interesting nose for a few months. He's a funny little guy.

Joshua and his cousin Alex love to play in the water together. Well, Joshua usually starts off scared, but eventually Alex is able to coax him into the water.

Rowell Family Reunion

James' family had a reunion up at Aspen Grove for a week in July. His parents have been saving and planning for this for years and now I can see why they were so excited about it. Not only is there free day care for kids for much of the day (in which they do fun activities the whole time), but there is swimming, tennis, golf, 3 buffet meals a day, crafts, pottery, baseball, nightly activities, high ropes course, rock climbing, fishing, paint ball etc. See, an amazing place.

I didn't get to do tons because Jacob was only 5 weeks old which was kind of sad at times as I watched from the sidelines while everyone else was doing stuff, but that's ok. It's worth it to have my little boy! He did amazingly well. He was rarely fussy even though he napped about 1/4 as much as usual. He spent most of his time during the day in the mei tai Sharon made me. I am so glad I had the baby carrier to hold him in all day long instead of my arms--that would make for really tired arms! I'm not sure I would have been able to use my arms again if I had held him for 16 hours a day for a week!

They had a "pioneer village" for kids to play on. It had a bunch of play stores in it and a life size horse to sit on among other things.

The little boy cousins had fun playing cars together.

Thirty of us stayed in this cabin together. It was ever so slightly crowded.

We realized that Joshua was outgrowing his play pen.

Look at how excited Joshua is to be in the drivers seat! You can't fully see his facial expression, but trust me when I say that it is pretty dang enthusiastic.

I got a big bruise from playing paintball. This picture doesn't do my pain justice.

And James and I had fun on the high ropes course. I realized at this time that I have embarrassingly weak arms. I also realized that I am not in the least bit scared of heights. The second of these realizations helped me feel better about the first :)
